应兰州大学外国语学院邀请，美国堪萨斯大学修辞与写作博士辛闻来校进行学术交流并举办学术讲座。

报告人简介：
辛闻现为美国堪萨斯大学修辞与写作博士， 先后于美国福特海斯州立大学及堪萨斯大学讲授《公共演讲》（Public Speaking）和《英文写作》（English Composition）等课程。他的主要研究范围包括修辞文体学（Rhetorical Genre Studies），作文教学法（Composition Pedagogies）, 历史社会语言学 (Historical Sociolinguistics)， 资料库语言学 （Corpus Linguistics）。辛闻在美国《大学写作与交流的学术会议》（Conference on College Composition and Communication）上做过数次关于跨语言写作（Translingual Writing）的学术演讲， 并曾任第十届《北美历史语言学学术会议》组委会委员。他将于今年8月在英国爱丁堡举行的第二十界《国际英语历史语言学学术会议》上做有关十七世纪英文字母书写的学术演讲。
讲座摘要：
The traditional conception of genre considers genres as a classification system of texts. While such a system that emphasizes the textual forms of genres may still have value in genre studies, it has been suggested that any genre cannot be fully understood without examining its rhetorical situation (writers, readers, purposes, settings) from which the genre developed. This talk, by connecting theories of rhetoric to genre studies, will explain why genres have been viewed as rhetorical and social actions in response to recurrent rhetorical situations in North America. This talk will end by discussing how this new conception of genre has been used in writing classrooms in the United States and how this new conception can also provide pedagogical insights for writing teachers of English in China.
